The Ministry Fair each year is a splendid witness to how the Spirit is moving through our parish in the many people who use their gifts and talents in service to our community. Being involved in a ministry helps us to reflect upon the importance of living for something bigger than ourselves and how together we can achieve so much. The participation of all parishioners in the ministries of the parish as essential was expressed by Cardinal Roger Mahony (former Archbishop of Los Angeles) when he said:
Authentic collaboration is rooted in the conviction that all of the baptized are given a share in Christ's priestly ministry, and that one and all are necessary for the fulfillment of the church's mission. Above all, we must be willing to admit that we can achieve something together that we cannot achieve alone…While lay ministry differs from the ministry of the ordained, it too is a participation in the priestly ministry of Christ and so appropriate in its own right. Only with this realization is true collaboration between ministries ordained and non-ordained possible.
Your participation in parish ministry is indispensable. Even if we were blessed with many more vocations to the religious life (sisters and priests), all parishioners have a legitimate role in the work of the church. If you are not yet involved in a parish ministry, plan to come to the Ministry Fair next Saturday and Sunday. Don’t miss out on all the fun!
