In July five members of Saint Ambrose parish visited San Agustin for one week, visiting and working with our Sister Parish. Our team included Jose Hernandez, Meghan Clark, Kelly Martinez, Oliver Borchers and Darrell and Lorelei Matics. During our visit we worked with the disabled children of Los Angelitos and their families to paint their school. Meghan, a senior at Bishop McNamara High School did an outstanding job directing the painting project as part of her senior service project. Kelly, a senior at Elizabeth Seton High School earned service hours and was a big help working with the children on a weaving project as well as doing a fabulous job as a mission team translator. We also met with the students, farmers and small business owners who are receiving student loans and micro-loans. The loans are funded through the St. Ambrose Children's fund. We visited other projects that had been funded through St. Ambrose Church as well, such as the new floor in the chapel in the neighborhood of Joval Arrozales, the lending library at the San Agustin Cultural Center, the new Parish kitchen and the playground at the church. Saint Ambrose is making a difference! This year the St. Ambrose Children’s fund will provide $7000 for student loans to six students, $1200 for business microloans, and $500 to support Los Angelitos. We are sincerely grateful to the families of St. Ambrose for their generosity. We would also like to thank Steve Graves for arranging for the donation of a dozen laptop computers, which we will loan to the students and with we hope to use to start an Internet service for the town. Join us next summer on our Mission trip to El Salvador! .
